Sometimes it may feel as though you brought home Cujo instead of Lassie! Do not despair. With some patience, and a little training, your unruly mutt can be better behaved in no time.
Reinforce calm behavior upon your arrival. Play time is great, but your dog needs to learn to stay calm as his master enters the room. Do not acknowledge the animal when you enter and by doing so, you create a controlled atmosphere in which you decide how and when play time begins.
A dog has an inquiring mind and will look at one thing for quite a while until its attention is broken. Your dog can learn to focus less and less, except for your commands, by using repetition.
You must be willing to invest the time required for practice if you want your training to be successful. It’s very likely to take many repetitions of one command in order for your pup to fully understand it. Be patient and say the same command in the same way each time. Your dog will learn eventually.
When you buy a crate, ensure it is the correct size. Keep in mind that your puppy will eventually grow into a bigger dog. Choose a crate that works both for puppy and mature sizes. Don’t restrict the size so much so that the dog cannot lie or turn easily.
Training your pet to roll over very easy. Just remember to have treats in hand. First, place your dog in the “down” position. Then, hold the treat over your dog’s head and swipe it above and around his head, causing him to roll over. They should follow that treat with their nose, which should cause them to roll over. Say the command, “roll over” when he rolls over. It will probably take multiple attempts, but you will be the talk of the town when the trick is learned.
A lot of pet owners are pleasantly surprised how canine behavior training can fit seamlessly into their lives and just how soon they can see positive effects. So if your dogs relationship with you seems strained, try using these tips.
