Tips On How To Train Your Dog Properly

A well-trained dog makes both you and your pet happy. Training allows the dog to know what is expected of them. If your dog has been trained effectively, you will be less reluctant to leave him at home alone, allow him to interact with visitors or spend time together in public places like dog parks. It might take some effort, but teaching your dog tricks and manners is an important investment in everyone’s happiness.

Gradual increments are easiest on your dog when going through crate training. Eventually they will become comfortable with the crate and you can then try to shut the door to the crate. When they allow the door to shut you can give them a treat through the wiring. Leave them in for short periods of time, as little as 10 seconds. Work up from there. Freaking out your dog is a sign that you need to slow down.

When you do give your dog correction verbally, make those corrections short, sharp and to the point. Avoid going on a rant about the dog’s “badness”. Simply tell them no an instead steer them towards what you’d like them to do. When speaking to your dog, use a voice that commands respect.

Chew Toys

Always give your puppy plenty of toys to chew on to help with teething pain. Otherwise, you might find your shoes becoming chew toys. Give it one of his chew toys immediately. A wet frozen washcloth is great for a puppy, who has teething pain, to chew on.

Most of all, training a dog lays out the dog/owner relationship rules. You enjoy each other much more once those guidelines are outlined. Don’t forget to continue providing reinforcement. Always keep a close eye out and do not hesitate to enforce proper punishment on any violations of the designated rules. Once the basic dog training skills are mastered, the world is your oyster when it comes to working with your dog.
