Most dogs need some sort of training. Use the following advice and you will end up with a joyful, well behaved dog.
When training a puppy to use a crate it is important to take your time and start with only a few steps at a time. Once your dog seems to have acclimated to the crate itself, close the gate and feeding him through it. In the beginning it is important to only leave the dog in the crate for a few seconds. After a while you will be able to leave them in the crate for longer amounts of time. If the puppy becomes upset, you may be progressing too quickly.
Make sure that your dog stays in a relaxed area. It is okay to have play time, but when you enter a room your dog should be calm. Avoid acknowledging the dog upon your entry, and you can foster the sort of controlled environment necessary to good behavior.
Feed your dog a healthy diet. Your dog will not benefit from a poor diet. Not only is it unhealthy, it can affect the way they behave. Improving your dog’s diet will also improve its mental capacity.
Try not to reinforce bad behavior in your dog by accident. In basic terms, this means refusing to reward your dog, via attention or treats, for doing any action that you are trying to get them to stop doing. For instance, if your dog does not sit when commanded, do not rub his head affectionately unless he actually sits.
It is easy to train a roll with treats. The first step is to teach your dog to lay. Hold a treat between your forefingers near the left side of your dog’s head, and then slowly pass the treat in front of his face and to the opposite side. His nose will track that treat and his body will roll over. Each time he sways to one side, tell him to “roll over”. Keep doing this until the treat is no longer needed. It may take some time for your dog to perfect the trick, but it’s a popular move and one that is sure to impress others.
Even if you’ve got a rowdy dog, keep thinking positively. You can train most dogs if you use proper method and some perseverance. Utilize the advice above in order to ease the process of training and produce terrific results.
