Many dogs are dropped off at an animal shelter by owners perturbed by their pet’s behavior; however, with proper training this situation can be avoided. Properly trained dogs have the potential to be charming, happy and loving parts of any family. Training your dog can be simple to do, if you use the following steps.
Trying to understand how your dog is feeling. It is easy to get frustrated with your dog if they are not learning very basic things quickly or at all. Rather than abandoning the training, consider what the dog might be thinking. Trying to see things the way that your dog does may be able to give you an idea of the right kind of training for your dog.
Do not tether two dogs close to each other. The chain from one dog could wrap around the second and the dogs could get hurt trying to get free. This is especially dangerous if one dog is larger than the other, as it could use its superior size to maneuver the other dog into a dangerous position.
When training your dog, make it fun for the both of you. Taking time to play creates a strong bond between the two of you, and your dog will be more likely to respond well to training. Training can be enjoyable, but you should still make time just to play with your pet.
Always get your dog’s attention the same way. Start all commands with the dog’s name. His name will catch his attention and then he’ll know you’re speaking to him. Dogs know their name and will be attentive when you speak it.
As you can now see, it’s not impossible to teach your dog how to behave. Love, attention and training are the key components for a well-rounded dog. Follow the steps listed above and your dog will become, and remain, an important part of your family.
