A trained dog is a happy dog. A training your dog routine makes it easier for you and your dog to understand each other’s expectations. Training your dog makes life less stressful as you will be able to leave him alone and know he will behave well with visitors or in public. Although it may not be easy, the time you devote to teaching your dog manners, tricks, and the proper way to do things will be well spent.
Whenever you have to correct your dog, make sure to speak using short and sharp language. Avoid going on a rant about the dog’s “badness”. Simply say no and direct them to what you want them to do instead. Use a tone which is obviously one of consternation.
Put yourself in your dog’s proverbial shoes, or paws, rather. As advanced creatures, we humans have problems accepting when our dogs aren’t picking up new skills as fast as we’d like. Looking at the problem from your dog’s perspective can help. Imagine the world like they do and that can provide you with a fresh perspective on training.
Reinforce calm behavior upon your arrival. During playtime allow your dog to be feisty, but teach him to remain calm when someone enters a room. Don’t acknowledge your dog when you enter the room. By doing this, you will be able to create a controlled environment in which you determine when and how play time begins.
Remember that training your dog is about establishing a set of rules you both will live by. When these rules have been set and they are consistently followed, you and your dog will enjoy your time together even more! Always reinforce everything you have taught your dog. If you continue to keep up with training your dog you will curb any bad behaviors that have popped up. Once your dog gets the training basics under his collar, you will not be limited in what you can achieve together.
