A dog is very similar to a television remote that needs to be programmed to work with a TV. The remote has all the capabilities of working, but it needs someone to program it to work. Dogs aim to please their human companions, which makes them eager to learn new tasks and tricks.
Create a calm environment whenever you enter the room the dog is in. It’s great to play freely with your dog, but when you enter a room, you should not be bombarded. Try to ignore your dog when your first enter the room because this will help to keep them calm and reinforce that you are in control.
Your dog needs to be active frequently. Dogs can get bored easily. Dogs that lose interest are hard to train. Your dog will be more relaxed and willing to listen if he is exercised frequently. You and your dog can run or walk together daily.
When you are trying to house train your puppy, keep in mind that everything that you put in, will come out. If you want your puppy to relieve himself with regularity, keep the diet regular too, like feeding him good food two or three times daily at consistent intervals. If you know when the puppy eats, you will be able to better predict when to take him out. This means fewer accidents!
Choose a set phrase for house training your dog. Every single time you take your pup to do his business, say something like “need to go out?”. It does not matter the phrase you choose, as long as you keep it consistent. This will keep him focused, and will teach him to associate those words with the action of relieving himself.
Once you can bring out a dog’s ability to be trained, it is just a matter of consistently practicing the techniques. The dog usually will like pleasing its owner as equally as its owner will enjoy watching the dog respond to the training he is giving.
