Canine training is vital to your happiness, and the dog’s as well. By being trained, you and your dog can relate to each other and where the other one is coming from. Once trained, you will not have to worry about behavior problems when taken out into public or left home alone. It will not always be easy to train your dog. It takes a lot of time and effort to properly train a dog.
When your dog is a room make sure you are calm when you come in. During playtime allow your dog to be feisty, but teach him to remain calm when someone enters a room. Do not acknowledge his presence when you enter, so the atmosphere remains controlled until you decide when his play time begins.
Dogs have a tendency to zone in on one particular thing until something else grabs their attention. Repetition and practice will result in your dog waiting to take cues from you rather than being distracted by other things.
Shock Collars
Don’t waste your money on cruel, ineffective gadgets such as shock collars. Often times, they do not work and are over priced. In addition, shock collars and related devices can actually irritate your dog and eradicate current good behaviors. Usually if you do this your dog will respond in the wrong way.
Every time you speak a command, it should be with the same tone and loudness level. This helps your dog to understand when you are in training mode. It will also let the dog know the difference between an angry voice, a happy voice and an authoritative voice.
Training your dog is essentially establishing relationship rules, and, like with people, enjoyment with each other will be so much more since the groundwork has been established. Remember that reinforcement is important if you want your dog to retain his new skills. Be consistent when disciplining him and monitoring his behavior. Once your dog is able to understand the basics, you and your dog are limitless as to what tricks and behaviors can be achieved.
