A dog is very similar to a television remote that needs to be programmed to work with a TV. Your dog is capable of doing what you would like him to do, but you have to train him the right way. Dogs already possess the means to be taught, but it is up to us to teach them.
As you are working to house train your pet, select a single term or phrase that you will use. Each time you let your dog out to relieve himself, use a phrase such as “go potty” so that he associates going outside with going to the bathroom.
Approach any unfamiliar dog with care. Walk slowly toward him and allow the dog to sniff your hand before trying to pet the dog. Extending your hand lets the animal familiarize himself with your unique scent, making him more receptive to a friendly interaction. When a dog recognizes the scent, they won’t fear you and will follow commands.
Canine training starts with patience. A patient attitude will make the training process less stressful for the both of you. Keep in mind that they wish to please you; however, they get confused because they can’t understand your language.
The first thing you should teach your dog is to “leave it.” This commands the dog to drop whatever is in its mouth. This can help get your dog to stop chomping on your belongings and help keep them safe from hazardous materials.
If your dog jumps up, quickly bring your knee up to encounter his chest and say OFF! This will not hurt him, but it is quite uncomfortable. Since it is so uncomfortable, they’ll avoid jumping on people.
If you know how to get through to your pet, it is easy to teach them more things down the line. Your pet will like the time that is spent between you and them in the training sessions.
