Sit! Stay! Read These Tips On Puppy Training

Sometimes it may feel as though you brought home Cujo instead of Lassie! Don’t worry, with proper techniques even the worst dog can learn to be well behaved.

Always maintain a calm environment as you enter any room your dog occupies. It is okay to have play time, but when you enter a room your dog should be calm. You can retain control over the environment by allowing a few moments before acknowledging your pet. You are behind the decisions to play or interact.

Good behavior means rewards! If your dog follows a training command properly, then it is acceptable to reward the behavior to a calm animal. You may feel great about it, but you don’t want to make the pup feel over-excited. If you are able to maintain your calm, you can expect your dog to maintain calm too.

Your dog may not learn a command right away. You might have to keep repeating something to a dog as much as fifty times for it to ‘click’. Keep trying the same commands until your dog remembers it for good.

Training Sessions

Training sessions should be very short. Dogs can’t pay attention for a long time, so keep sessions short and dynamic. If you desire to do a lot more training, be sure to give your dog breaks in between training sessions.

Make sure your dog understand he does not need to respond to the word “no”. Use positive reinforcement to encourage good behavior. Dog’s often don’t get the meaning of words like “no.” No two animals and trainers are alike, so choose an approach that meets both your needs.
